Employee-led Volunteer Initiatives: Supporting DC Honor Flights with Mike Orquiza
As a senior medical advisor with the Research Division’s Microbicide Branch at USAID’s Office of HIV/AIDS, Mike Orquiza developed a deep commitment to community outreach early in his career. As a trained medical doctor, published author, and MBA and MHSA graduate, Mike currently supports USAID’s research program in biomedical prevention research and product introduction, working closely with the HIV Vaccine Branch, Prevention Care and Treatment, and Supply Chain in Health teams.
Mike recently organized volunteers to greet two Honor Flights into DC the first week of November. Honor Flights provide opportunities for our nation’s veterans to visit the war memorials in the city. “The Honor Flight program is important and provides a way to give thanks and appreciation to veterans. Although I’m not a military veteran, I have relatives that are, and participating in these events is a way to honor them as well,” Mike explained.
